the home ed green woodworking group
Taking place at our private woodland site on the grounds of Gilbert White’s House, Selborne, Hampshire, we will be gathering around the campfire and hosting our next ‘The Home Ed Green Woodworking Group’ sessions are on Monday 21st August, Monday 18th September, and, Monday 16th October, 10am - 2pm.
Important: In order to attend this particular group, participants must have first completed either our ‘Beginners Woodcraft & Whittling Workshop’ or previously attended our Forestcraft programme.
This 4hr green woodworking group is designed for children approx. 7yrs + and their accompanying adult. Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult, but participants who are 12+ may attend this group without an accompanying adult. This group provides a perfect opportunity for both adults and their children to learn and develop their green woodworking skills, and work on their own projects, alongside each other.
This group aims to build upon existing skills and knowledge in green woodcraft and whittling, by providing the opportunity to work with additional tools and equipment, and to gradually extend participants skills, knowledge and understanding of working with greenwood to make different objects. This group will be purely focussed around green woodworking, and learning to use associated hand tools (knives, drawknives, crook knives, axes, froes, etc) and workshop equipment (saw horse, shave horse, carving blocks, bowl benches) to cut, carve, and shape appropriate materials. Full guidance around the safe and appropriate use of the tools and equipment will be given.
During each session, we will have a variety of relevant tools available to use, and we will have plenty of resources (generally hazel and sweet chestnut, but sometimes others) to work with. We will provide a range of suggested projects which can be worked towards during the session, but we also encourage participants and accompanying adults to come along to the session with their own project ideas too. If there’s something you’re particularly wanting to explore or create, please let us know and we’ll do our best to facilitate it. It’s an ideal opportunity for both children and adults to make use of the tools, equipment and environment, whilst working alongside each other to develop their own skills, knowledge and understanding whilst working on their own projects.
Please note, that, due to the nature of the session and it’s use of tools, this group is specifically for children 7+ and embraces a more focussed and structured delivery. This session is different to our Forest School sessions, and will be purely green woodworking focussed.. No hammocks, shelter building, etc…
The cost of the session includes a simple vegan lunch, prepared over the campfire, for both the children and adults attending. Tea and coffee will also be available throughout the session.
An adult will need to accompany children at this workshop, between the ages of 7-11. Participants aged 12+ can attend without an adult.
The cost of this workshop is £30.50 per child, per session (inclusive of 1 accompanying adult per child booking). Parent to child ratio is 1:2 max.
Due to the nature of the workshop and the tool use involved, this workshop has limited numbers (8 child spaces available).
The workshop is delivered outdoors in our private woodland site. This workshop will be delivered in all weathers (tarps are used to provide shelter from any rain) except extremely strong winds (in line with our Terms and Conditions of Booking)
