THE WILD PASSPORT (HOME ED) 8-11yrs
‘The Wild Passport’ is our nature-based, progressive skills development and outdoor learning group for children, aged between 8-11yrs, and who are home educated..
These drop off sessions run monthly, on a Friday between 10.00-15.00. This programme is delivered at our site in Selborne. In order to facilitate the programme effectively, and allow participants the space to thrive, this programme is limited to 10 children at a time. Sessions are facilitated by 2 adults (1 male & 1 female)
Every session begins and ends around our campfire circle, which is usually the heart of our sessions, and provide us with the opportunity to connect, share, and reflect together. These are skills based sessions which take inspiration from bushcraft, nature connection, and nature-based learning practices. These sessions will provide an opportunity to discover, explore, and develop the use of tools to undertake relevant woodland-based skills and crafts, whittling and green woodworking, shelter building and camp set up/maintenance, explore and refine fire craft skills, as well as working collaboratively on campfire cooking, whilst also connecting with nature. These sessions provide a little more ‘structure’ and each session will provide a specific ‘focus’ for children to work towards, with each session covering specific elements of criteria from the five different areas of the Wild Passport programme. By taking part in this programme, participants work towards the achievement of WILD Passport objectives, and their relevant certificates.
Alongside the opportunity to undertake woodland and nature-based skills development, activities and crafts, there is also the opportunity to develop and foster a connection, appreciation, and respect for nature and the woodland environments that are home to our sessions. These sessions aim to provide a relaxed, calming and reflective environment where children of an older age can come together to share and connect with each other.
The Wild Passport is an outdoor learning curriculum which takes inspiration from bushcraft, forest school, and other nature-based programmes. It is based upon a progressive, skills based curriculum which can be monitored and achievement recorded against criteria in five different areas; Woodcraft, Shelter, Fire, Nature, Rope. These different skill areas are delivered and developed across five different levels; Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, Proficient, Expert. A physical passport (which must be purchased from us for a one-off cost of £6.50) is used to document and record achievement against each learning objective across the Wild Passport curriculum. Certificates are awarded for the completion of each level of the award. More info re. the Wild Passport can be found here; WILD Passport
Please note that the achievement of both the Wild Passport curriculum requires commitment beyond a one-off session, and our Wild Passport programme is intended as a long term learning journey, as opposed to a single skill-based workshop. If you’re looking for one-off, skill based workshops instead, then please visit our Home Ed tab, as we do offer single, 2hr workshops each month. Please only book for our Wild Passport programme if you’re able to attend these sessions as a long-term commitment. Current dates for spring 2023 are viewable further down the page.
Our Wild Passport programme provides children with the space and time to slow down, disconnect from the hustle and bustle of modern life, but reconnect with themselves and each other, whilst enveloped in the naturally calming influence of our woodland site.
The Wild Passport programme is exclusively for children aged 8-11yrs, and is a drop-off programme with group sizes limited to a maximum of 10 children, in each group. Please note; we do not currently offer a sibling discount.
